Mammoth Trip - Saab Free - First Installment
Julian SutterSo today just finshed up riding mammoth. What can I say, the mountain is AWESOME. Yesterday after work I pilled in a van with my friend Jed and his family ahead headed up the mountain. The best part about this was the crying baby. Never the less, we made it.
This morning woke up about 9ish, and got ready to ride. It was just me on the mountain today as Jed and his family had Golfing engagements they had to hold up. By 10:15 I was on the lift to the top. It was such a nice day today, perfectly clear.
Quick Rundown
First turn of the mountain I totally ate it. I had forgotten how soft the dirt can be. Dropped my bike and landed in some nice rocks. YAY! Scraped up my arm pretty bad, so I ended up getting arm guards (already had leg guards.)
Only Crashed 5 Times
I crashed another 4 times (total of 5). All over the handle bars. All 4 of those were on a Black diamon ash pit of hell in the woods. It was not fun. However, those arm guards helped a LOT. Also they were really comfortable. They ran me a mean 52 dollars with tax, but thats not THAT big of a deal. (plus this IS a vacation)
39 Miles of Downhill Mountain Biking
Ended up doing a total of 39 Miles (37 of which were down hill) and that took 4 trips down the mountain (I always like to take really long routes/connectors). The last route was the longest at 12.5 Miles (which I think it was more, but I didn’t want to fudge the numbers). During that last little bit I could feel myself losing my concentration and muscle strength. Thats what happens when you ride for 8 hours on a mountain were every turn you have to be paying attention.
I think Ill go tomorrow, but I am not sure. Jed is thinking about getting the whole family to go (all men under 40 at least). It will probably be a much easier ride. I am tired anyways, so I doubt Ill be in top shape.
Now we are off to have some BBQ. This is really turning out to be a GREAT trip to mammoth.

you should be more careful with that body of yours. Crashing 5 times on your way down a mountain isn’t always the smartest idea.
