23.3 MPG Week 1 of Gas Conservation.

Julian Sutter

So this last week I decided I would conserve gas as much as I could.  The main thing I did was keep my free way speeds to 65 mph.   This was great for the first 200 miles of my tank (which is an 18 gallon tank)  However I had a bad day, turned on the radio and did some really fast driving.

Id estimate that 70% of the tank was on slow driving and 30% is on heavy acceleration.   Truth be told, I could have done a better job.  In the end I got 377 miles out of 16 gallons.  thats 23.3 Miles Per Gallon.  My goal is 26 mpg.  I think that if I drive the entire tank with an empty trunk and cutting back on my lead foot it might be possible.

Only way to find out is really be disciplined in my driving for the next week.  Don’t really have any other options given my finances. YAY.
