Road Kill Art

Julian Sutter

a squirrel lost his life.

Orion Magazine had an article about this Road Kill Art.  It is pretty weird stuff actually.  As a former art major myself I sorta understand this guys view point.

So when I was an art student I was really not creative at all.  In fact, what I learned was how to choose topics that were “artsy”.  At our liberal arts/small school they tought us to find things that were different and make them ours.

I can TOTALLY understand someone seeing a squirrel on the ground and saying “wow. a dead animal.. i be I can make prints of that!

So is it a way for artists to take the easy road?  Not at all.  but it is something that we have to move beyond.  I am 1 year into profit orriented design work, and I love it.  however it was hard to break the “I have to be edgy” barrier.

All in all I think that its important to have people who make prints out of squirrels, but thats not me for sure.
